Better late than never, eh?
Side note: I’ve been listening to Someone Knows Something (the stories are very sad but addicting and I totally recommend it) which is created by the Canadian Broadcasting Company and a lot of people on it have very heavy Canadian accents. SO I’m blaming SKS for my use of “eh” just now.
Anyways, I always love watching or reading about people’s yearly favorites because I get a lot of recommendations and always get excited to try out some new products this time of year.
So I wanted to share mine too in case you all out there love yearly beauty favorites as much as I do.
Probably my best find in 2018. I think this product might fly under the radar or be under appreciated by those who do full-on makeup on the daily or want fuller coverage. For me, this product does some magic when it comes to color correcting. I don’t know why, but without looking like I put on any makeup, it evens out my skin. It can be worn under foundation, but I wear it alone with some concealer under my eyes and on any other necessary spots. Added perk, it has SPF 30!
I tried the cult favorite Tarte Shape Tape. I tried the ever popular Nars Creamy Concealer. I tried them all. The only one I came back to this year? Urban Decay Naked. I tried it out in 2017 and nothing compared so it was basically all I used in 2018. It’s great coverage, but is light, does not look cake-y, doesn’t move into my fine lines. What more do I need?
I was so intrigued by the many raving reviews about this product. It makes my skin look soft, slightly glowy (definitely not matte), and not overly powdered or cake-y like a lot of powder products.
Benefit Hoola Bronzer ($30)
It’s so popular for a reason. It’s just really good! It doesn’t have glitter and it’s not overly warm, yet not super gray-toned either like a strictly contour product would be. It’s the perfect all in one bronzer/contour product for me. I do a light contour, then bronze all over with the same product.
Definitely my most used highlighter this year. It’s very natural, not an overly glittery or obvious highlighter, but it applies smoothly and adds a nice sheen, no shimmer. Shimmer and glitter are not for me, so this highlighter is perfection in my eyes
A great primer, doesn’t budge on my lids and I love the shade on my skin tone. Makes a perfect base for shadows. I sometimes wear this alone and it brightens up my eyes just a little and covers veins. This isn’t just a 2018 winner, I’ve used this for years
When I wasn’t wearing my Benefit bronzer as an eyeshadow (because I’m simple like that), I was going back to this trio. It was something I used in high school! Believe it or not… I only wear the middle taupe-y shade and smudge it all over my lid, then blend it out. Easy, that’s what I like
This has been a favorite for years, definitely not a new discovery. It’s very black, easy to apply (because even after years, I’m still no expert) thanks to the felt tip pen style applicator that I love. It doesn’t smudge on my small, inset eyes (which says a lot) and it performs better than most high end liquid liners I’ve tried.
This is a mascara that my mom bought for me back in high school and I wanted to try it again in 2018. I love the plastic bristles (no natural bristle wands for me!) and it does a great job of adding volume and some length. I typically use it in conjunction with my CoverGirl mascara which I’ll explain below.
I use this along with my Buxom mascara to separate the lashes and make it more waterproof (as I usually only buy the waterproof version of this one). I also adore wearing this by itself too if I don’t feel like shelling out the big bucks for the Buxom Mascara. It works great and is my forever favorite that I buy on repeat. Enough said 🙂 it’s just great
Nivea Kiss of Cherry ($3)
I really wasn’t feeling lipstick at ALL this year. I was all about extremely natural lips that just looked soft and moisturized. This was the perfect product for me. It makes my lips feel soft, look slightly glossy, adds the slightest hint of color and feels so comfortable on.
Now, thinking forward to 2019. I can’t wait to try some new products!
